Shredder

Intriguing debut from a unique cinematic mind
Disclosure: I have known writer/director Cody Clarke for many years and supported the creation of this film through Kickstarter.

Some twelve years ago, I was in high school and learning to play guitar and write songs. There's a certain way that young musicians bond over songs and instruments and occasional crude jokes about the opposite sex. Music and musicianship can be a rite of passage, and a way of expressing nameless feelings at an age when feelings are sometimes overwhelming.

For me, Shredder is about those unspoken feelings and the music through which they can be released. It is a very personal film, and sometimes willfully unconventional, full of quiet moments and uncomfortable conversations. Yet it is also wholly relatable. Shredder's characters and dialogue recall real people and real situations more than the unrealistically amplified drama of mainstream film and television.

This organic sensibility is also observed in the film's narrative...

My Son's Review of this Fantastic Film
My son Ben expresses his admiration for this film, saying Shredder is a very personal piece about an aspiring guitar player and the girlfriends or younger pedophiles that are all a part of his journey. I love how casual the film moves and how real it feels. It does not tell the tale of Mick Jagger but I wouldn't watch Mick's bio-piece anyways. Films in the box office often fall into strict categories but here we see a light comedy which incorporates artistic measures such as black and white lens, the sub-plot of a young pervert and the lack of cutting angles that most fast-pace comedies depend on. It clearly comes from an individual mind and I think anyone who wants to see film that doesn't repeat the expected formula but makes further steps in the development of genre in cinema should defiantly buy this film. I bet you'll be recommending it to your friends!

An improvement on sliced bread
Shredder cured my cancer and removed the wasp infestation from my bathroom walls. I learned how to play the guitar and then I saved the world with feels and things.
